With a rapidly growing population, the world is increasingly dependent on our ability to develop and maintain sustainable agriculture and healthy environments. As part of the Agricultural Solutions division of BASF, Innovation Center Gent delivers innovative solutions for the seeds business through modern biotechnology and advanced plant breeding. We cover many aspects within the field crop business from early discovery research to product commercialization, or as we call it: "from the lab to the field". The BASF Innovation Center Gent is one of the biggest research centers for the group's seed business. The company employs a workforce of approximately 400 from 28 different countries. Our scientists are involved in several projects that investigate new traits in the field of crop efficiency, weed control, pest control and quality. Their aim is to identify crop traits that create value in the various markets in which BASF is active. A second activity comprises the development and commercialization of various crop varieties, in which our growers use both conventional and molecular breeding techniques. The scientists are assisted by a group of support staff, from lawyers specialized in intellectual property and the seeds business, and engineers who manage the state-of-the-art facilities, to experts in accounting. All of these people provide support in the development and marketing of new seeds products. This 'all under one roof' approach is unique and gives the Innovation Center Gent a clear leading edge on its competitors. Let's bring the lab to the field!
